What an absolute blast this past Saturday at the Happy Dog as Jim, Matt and I got to see the reunion of The Waynes! Getting to see one of our favorite bands from the 90’s brought back all kinds of 107.9 The End memories and it was great to see station staff and fans come out alike and get to see The Waynes kill for over 2 hours!

The night started of with an amazing opening solo performance from Chris Allen.

Who not only did songs from the breadth of his carrer including one my favorite Rosavelt tunes ‘Carp and Bones’ but promised to come up with a better harmonica holder for all those solo performers that struggle with the current contraption!

Next up The Waynes hit stage for the first of 2 sets they would perform!!

Starting off with one of the first songs they wrote The Waynes burned through the first set which included allot of their early work with Matt switching from acoustic to electric guitar as the set progressed into their first CD ending with an amazing ‘Fall Off the World’! Other highlights include ‘This Moving Train’, ‘Strong’, ‘Blasted’ and a standard cover from back in the day ‘Eminence Front’ with Laurie on lead vox!

After a quick break and a shot the band headed back up on stage ignoring stifling heat to give the packed Happy Dog what it wanted…more MUSIC!! Starting off with ‘On Your Side’ some second set highlights include ‘Different Light’, ‘Backword’, ‘Break it all Down’ and the unreleased ‘Swerve’ from the Mitch Easter sessions!

What a great time all night long! I hope we don’t have to wait another 10 years for The Waynes to play again! It was obvious all night long that they have lost none of the chemistry that made them one of the city and regions favorites bands throughout the 1990’s!

Zach celebrates his 9^th release to benefit Cuyahoga Falls High School Theater Department!

Zach has come a long way from his humble open mic beginnings exactly one decade ago. He’s performe d over 2,000 shows in states from coast to coast, on stages of all shapes and sizes. It’s a schedule that has found him on bills with Neil Yo ung, Gin Blossoms, Bad Company, and newcomers like Brett Dennon, Jen Chapin, and Trevor Hall. “I absolutely love performing! I couldn’t not perform. It’s something in the blood, I think. But I also do it to see the smiles on people’s faces. To see someone get lifted up is an amazing feeling!”

On April 25^th, he releases his 9^th CD, What I Meant to Say, which was recorded over the course of several months in Atlanta, GA and co-produced by Nick Chawala (Gym Class Heroes, Outkast, Collective Soul, Elton John) and features his talented band of Northeast Ohio musicians. The songs on this recording are the most personal of his career, including several written while his father was fighting Pancreatic Cancer and shortly after his father lost that battle in 2006. “I feel this is the best that I’ve ever done, and is more of a genuine and honest record. These songs were all written in a period of high emotion, and both the band and Nick did a fantastic job capturing that.”

To mark this special occasion, there will be a CD Release Concert on April 25^th at the Cuyahoga Falls High School (2300 4^th St, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221). The show kicks off at 7:00pm with a local band from the high school opening the evening. Zach will be having several special guests during his set. Tickets are only $7 –or – 2 for $10! Plus, each ticket entitles the bearer to $3 off the new CD. Tickets can be purchased at the school, online at ww.zachmusic.net/order.html, and at all upcoming Zach appearances.

“I’m very excited to be working with the Cuyahoga Falls Theater and Stage departments. Sadly, the arts are always the first experiences cut in schools, so any way I can help them, I will. Plus, this will also benefit the sound and stage program at the high school. My father was my soundman, and respected for his skills in the community, and I think he would be happy to see this department helped along.”

His shows have been called “incredible” and “uplifting.”

We’re a couple of weeks away from a concert featuring Jonah Koslen and Stage Pass Now at The Winchester on Saturday, April 18th. Jonah and his band, which features some heavy hitters from Cleveland local bands back in the day (Easy Street, Breathless, etc) will recreate the classic MSB live album Stagepass onstage at The Winchester. The show will be a tuneup for larger shows planned for later this year.

We’ll have Jonah in the studio this weekend on Inner Sanctum to talk about the show, and he’ll also play a few tunes for us, live in the studio!

Ohio Sky (formerly The Ohio Sky) will also join us this Sunday during the second hour, to talk about the latest happenings with their band, and we’ll probably have some new tunes to share with you all as well!

During last night’s music news, we threw out a little teaser about a new low dough concert series from Radio 92.3 featuring up and coming national bands paired with opening slots featuring Cleveland’s hottest local bands.

The cat’s out of the bag now, and we can share the full details on the Radio 92.3 “Cheap Date” concert series, happening at the House of Blues in the Cambridge Room!

The first show is set for Saturday, April 25th with Cage The Elephant. Opening the show, will be our good friends in The Doctor Teeeth!

Admission is a mere 5 bones (that’s 5 dollars for ya’ll that don’t speak the lingo…) and we MIGHT have some additional good news to share about The Doctor Teeeth in the weeks yet to come, so stay tuned!

Matt Shultz (vocals), his brother Brad (guitar) and their friends Daniel Titchenor (bass), Lincoln Parish (guitar) and Jared Champion (drums) have spent the last year tearing back and forth across Britain and America, leaving a trail of hedonistic chaos in their wake. Their debut album (recorded in just ten days with producer Jay Joyce), dropped in June 2008, and has been the basis for sellout tours in the UK as the five kids from Kentucky show the children of Great Britain how it’s done.

“Our name kind of stands for the whole of society”, Matt explains, “the people we all are by nature. Sometimes it feels like there’s a campaign to lock up all the good in the world. You turn on the news and hear ‘Today 26 people got gunned down, and one guy got his head chopped off, and here’s a picture of it’. It’s like there’s no hope. And it’s not just the government or the media who are responsible for that, it’s everywhere. But we want to show that’s not right - you can’t cage the elephant”.
