Stuff From The Show: Don Dixon and Marti Jones
Monday, March 9th, 2009During Jim’s absence from the show, we’ve been playing a different track each week from Pere Ubu. We took a break on this weekend’s show to play track from another one of Jim’s favorites, Don Dixon.
The track we played tonight was “Girls L.T.D.,” sourced from a cool “official bootleg” that Dixon shared recently with the entertainment website Popdose.
Captured on tour in 1990 with Marti Jones, the show features Dixon and Jones backed with full band and a horn section:
The concert featured below – which Dixon in recent years had considered giving an official release – was recorded on May 11, 1990, at the 1313 Club in Charlotte. Dixon was promoting his EEE album, which featured the Uptown Horns prominently on several tracks, so for the subsequent tour he and Jones added a horn section to their usual backing band. Jones’ contributions included previews of a couple tracks from her then-upcoming Any Kind of Lie album. “I remember that show because there was a lot of setup time, since we were recording it to 24-track,” Jones says. “Those shows were also memorable because there were so many freaking people on the stage! It was fantastic having the horn section behind us – and it was really crowded.”

Don Dixon will be back for a return appearance with his longtime backing band The Jump Rabbits at The Winchester on Friday, April 17th. Get all of the details here on The Winchester website!
