Devo are currently finishing up the first new Devo release since Smooth Noodle Maps in 1990, and they’ve already started the promo machine with a couple of high-profile appearances at South By Southwest this past week. Whitney from Pop Candy caught up with the Devo cats for an interview featuring questions submitted by her readers, including this Akron-related Q!
Regarding the new album:
Devo will perform their classic Q: Are We Not Men? A: We are Devo! in its entirety during a London show in May. One more Devo item for you all - here’s the setlist from their SXSW performance, with thanks to Pop Candy. Jonah Koslen to recreate classic MSB CDThursday, March 19th, 2009I was jazzed to see the news about former Michael Stanley Band singer-songwriter Jonah Koslen who recently announced an April 18th date at The Winchester where he will recreate the classic MSB live album Stagepass with his creatively titled band Stage Pass Now. From the Winchester website:
Michael Stanley will be at the show, but not in the way that you might expect. Stanley shares the following quote:
Grab your tickets now for this intimate evening with Koslen and crew, which will very likely be a sellout. Visit The Winchester website for ticket details. PS - a little birdie told me that this will be a warmup show for a larger show later this year. You don’t want to miss this one! While we’re on the Koslen tip, check out this cool video of Koslen’s post-MSB project Breathless performing at the Cleveland Agora circa-1979! Kate Voegele in the studioThursday, March 19th, 2009Cleveland’s own Kate Voegele has a new CD due in May called A Fine Mess, and she recently shared a couple of cool “fly on the wall” clips from the studio. Check ‘em out - The Jellybricks, Rock Band 2, and Rolling StoneThursday, March 19th, 2009Here’s a cool story that we shared tonight on the show about The Jellybricks and their music video for “Ruin Us.” The band created the clip using Rock Band 2, and internet buzz for the video has escalated to a nod from Rolling Stone magazine, who called it “the first truly clever viral music video of 2009.” Bassist/singer Garrick Chow gave Rolling Stone the lowdown behind the clip:
Read the complete story here If you haven’t seen it, check out the clip for “Ruin You” below…. To Send Music: Stuff From The Show: Patrick Carney (The Black Keys) InterviewMonday, March 9th, 2009Here’s a cool interview with Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney that we talked about on last night’s show during music news. The interview was conducted by Jeff Niesel for Positively Cleveland and will appear in the official visitor’s guide to be printed this summer:
Whether you’re performing on Late Night with Conan O’Brien or playing the main stage at Lollapalooza, you guys always identify yourselves as the Black Keys from Akron, Ohio. Talk a little about what Akron symbolizes for you guys and why you like the city so much. Well, Akron is our home. It’s where all of our friends are. We do that because places like Akron get written off. I don’t think you can’t truly appreciate Akron until you have either lived here or at least been here. It’s not one of those cities where people are waiting in line to come visit. That’s why we like Akron. It’s not flashy. There are lots of cool things, but you just need to know where to go. Because of that, nothing ever changes, which is cool. Read the rest of the interview here (via Flee To The Cleve - Thanks to Sam Fryberger for the tip!) |
